Self-Portrait

Vincent van Gogh NeoMaster™

Background

There are 35 known self-portraits of Vincent van Gogh in the world. However, underneath his 'Head of a Peasant Woman' (1885), currently held at the National Galleries of Scotland in Edinburgh, there is an additional self-portrait hiding.

Since there are no other known self-portraits by the artist before 1885, this work is thought to be his first.

Method

Using a processed x-ray fluorescence image and a combination of GAN, Neural Style Transfer, and Diffusion methods, Oxia Palus reconstructed the lost masterpiece.
